Almost every industry has some sort of conference or trade show which is vital to attend–for those who want to stay on the top of their game. The extermination industry is no different, as there are a number of pest control conferences in existence across the country. For us at American Rat Control, attending the Vertebrate Pest Conference, which focuses on California pests, is a great way to remain at the top of our game.
History of the Vertebrate Pest Conference
Since 1968, the Vertebrate Pest Conference has been held every two years. In the 1970’s, the conference became a non-profit entity. It’s put together with input from the University of California, Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife, the California Dept. of Fish & Game, the Branch of Predator and Rodent Control the California Dept. of Agriculture, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the California Dept. of Public Health. It is usually held in the spring or late winter, most recently in late February 2018.
What is the Purpose?
With any industry like pest control, it is important that everyone is on the same page when it comes to certain topics. The Vertebrate Pest Conference allows companies like American Rat Control to get input from vital organizations, like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, that helps us do our jobs better while protecting the earth’s natural resources. In addition, this conference fosters a connection with the world at large, allowing the organization to disseminate information about pest control and related topics to interested parties in California.
The Conference
On the “big day,” you’ll find that the conference’s host location is a busy place. There are always a number of speakers hitting the stage and sharing their knowledge with all attendees. Taking note of when the most relevant speakers will be live is vital. Smaller workshops are a wonderful way for pest control pros to learn in-depth skills and knowledge in a smaller group. In addition, there is a “vendor room” where sponsors can set up a booth with information about their product or service. Touring this room is a great way for pest control professionals to make connections within the industry and start planning for their future growth. Finally, awards are given to recognize those making a huge positive impact in the industry.
There are published proceedings from past Vertebrate Pest Control events available for purchase online, too. For professionals who weren’t able to make the big event, or those who want to refresh their knowledge of a particular speaker, downloading these transcripts can be an excellent resource.
While the latest Vertebrate Pest Conference is now in the books, many people are already looking ahead to 2020 and thinking about what needs to be planned and what speakers should take the stage.
