Roof Rats: Better known as the Rattus Rattus, these 6 to 8-inch rodents are smaller than the Norway Rats and weight around 6 to 12 oz. They have a tail length of 7 to 10 inches while the body is small and sleek with a pointed nose. The total lifespan of the rats is around 6 to 18 months.

Norway Rats: Termed as Rattus Norvegicus, it is hard to identify on the basis of color as it varies from grey-brown to dark brown. It is much larger than the roof rats and weight nearly 16 oz. as a full grown rat. The total length is about 8 to 10 inches with an equally long tail. The droppings are dark in color and found in groups.

Mole: Moles that burrow in your garden are gray or silvery gray in color while weighing 3 to 6 oz. They are 5 to 8 inches in length and 1 inch for the length of the tail. They have thick, short bodies. Moles have a velvety fur and have sharp claws. The lifespan is 2 to 3 years.

Vole: Though these rodents look similar to mice, voles are scientifically termed as microtus pennsylvanicus. They are 4 to 7 inches in length, while the tail is 1 inch long and weight 0.5 to 1 oz. The round, stocky body does not have too much fur. They have a lifespan of 2 months to 18 months; they breed rapidly.

Gopher: Usually gophers are pale brown to shades of dark gray in color, with a 4-inch tail. These rodents are 5 to 14 inches in length and weight around 7 to 14 oz. The lifespan of these rodents is 1 to 3 years. With short neck, flattened head, they have long front teeth and marked sharp claws on the front feet, for digging. Their diet consists of alfalfa, trees, bulbs, plants.
